It is a fact that small business in Bangor
has suffered under the secretive regime of the Town
Centre Management. Who appointed this man and give him
the authority to speak for us?
He is
presidential in style and when we ask him for any
information (such as what sort of sweetners HMV were
offered to move into te town and drive out the
independent record shops) he cites commercial
confidentiality.
A classic example of this
autonomy is "The ABBAS" which are awards given out to
the local companies that someone (we donn't know as he
rfuses to publish the criteria or any of the marks
given) deems has preformed better than others that year.
You know the thing, too many insignificant awards - not
enough intrested companies. One possible clue to the
judging procedure crossed my mind recently. The Town
Centre Manager's own sister runs a local department
store which seems to have some sort of certificate
sitting in the window around this time....
STOP
PRESS! New award category for
2005.
"Multi-national chain that forces the
largest number of local shops to close
down"

You are right mate, he is a self-appointed
nobody. The Town Centre Managers post was created by Mr
Blooby on the hill(was it ever advertised)? It was stated
in the editors page in the local paper that £70-000
pounds of EEC money destined for the Peace and
Reconciliation fund was diverted to set ut this
fictional job.The story goes that Mr D claimed to have
worked on the London Dockland project(so can millions of
others, from Bank Managers to Rent Boys) The position he
currently holds and the dubious company he mixes
with, opens the door to the possibility that he is well
placed to have insider information on future Government
and Council plans on land release and capitial building
projects. As he is part of the Dunlop Building Dynasty
this could be viewed as having a conflict of interest. As
he appeared out of nowhere to fill this worthless post
,he should be treated with great caution. How he is
manager of 2 towns, Bangor and Holywood I will never
know, neither does he. If he ever approaches my
premises again,he will exit quicker than he
entered. Bet a million pounds Menarys wins again
2005,you are right his sister works there. It could
only happen in Bangor. |

What Is Town Centre Management?
The
town centre is the heart of any urban society. For some
years a number of Northern Ireland's town centres have
changed and not necessarily for the better. The primary
aim of Town Centre Management is to create active
partnerships and broad networks to develop a healthy and
sustainable town centre environment that involves and
benefits all its stakeholders. This includes the public,
private and voluntary sectors, as well as rates payers
and visitors who use the town centre. It works to create
an environment where social inclusion is the norm.
It seeks to:
Define an effective
business plan, with a yearly programme of achievable
action, including medium- and long-term projects that
are endorsed and funded by all partners.
Create
a shared vision of a town's identity, function, market
niche and brand that meets the needs of the people it
serves, now and into the future.
Develop the
life of town centres for all investors and users.
Seek out and retain a competitive edge for town
centres.
Use and improve public space to make it
accessible and enjoyable to all.
Develop
projects that focus on environmental improvement,
access, car parking, signing, security, inward
investment, marketing, customer care and attractions.
Justify public support by listening and
communicating decisions openly and objectively and
promote confidence by publicising partners achievements.

CHRISTMAS SHOPPING IN BUSTLING
BANGOR
I am pleased to report that discerning
shoppers will find all they need in Bangor, the town's
many charity shops famous for their 'old lady' smell
have a wide range of items for those family members you
dont like, get uncle jim those pair of dead mans shoes
he has been hankering for all year. for bookworm's there
is a choice of Christian book shops offreing titles as
diverse as 'Jesus, son of God' and 'God, father of
Jesus'. many people enjoy eating at this time of year
and in bangor you can certainly eat, check out the many
'eateries'. if you need a solicitor, or estate agent
bangor is also great . then....er, what else? oh yes the
card shops at this time of year you have to send lots
and lots of cards, there are many shops in bangor where
you can buy cards, oh and of course the banks, of which
there are plenty, perfect for arranging the traditional
christmas overdraft. phew, Bangor's great isnt it?

BANGOR - "SADDEST PLACE ON EARTH"
A
U.N. survey has declared Bangor as the 'saddest place on
earth' heading off strong competiton from Bangladesh,
Chad and Lurgan. The team of inspectors were impressed
with the lack of quality shopping as quoted by a council
member, also of what stores remained they were staggered
by their shabby appearance, worthless stock, demeaning
service and 'interesting' smell. the team went on to
stress that it was the people of Bangor who made all the
difference. 'they brilliantly capture the futility of
consumerism', explained U.N inspector Kim-Song Ahmed
Mbeki. 'despite having no money, the old and the dole
hacks and the DLA ridden society of Bangor feel it
neccessary to acquire pointless bits of crap to feel
they belong to society. Although I have to admit the
batteries in Woodsides are a bargain'
The
happiest place on Earth is Disney World, situated near
the Leisure Centre aka The Town Hall.
